Different students need different amounts of instruction and practice to become fluent, independent readers. Students in Grades 3 and up who struggle to read can learn the foundational skills they need with systematic instruction, targeted practice, and clear, corrective feedback.
Take action to address this reality with PHONICS for Reading. Authored by reading expert Dr. Anita Archer, PHONICS for Reading is a systematic, research-based intervention program that accelerates instruction for struggling readers in Grades 3–12 by equipping them with the tools necessary to decode with confidence. PHONICS for Reading also ties seamlessly into your i-Ready Assessment data, enabling you to identify the population of students in need and the level of support each student requires.
Highlights of the program include:
Each PHONICS for Reading lesson uses a systematic sequence of explicit phonics instruction, providing a consistent routine that allows students to apply each concept in increasingly challenging situations to build accuracy, automaticity, and fluency. This approach ensures upper elementary, middle, and high school students progress quickly through phonics intervention lessons, keeping them motivated and feeling successful.
First Level: Includes 30 teacher-directed phonics lessons that focus on short vowels, consonants, consonant blends, and digraphs
Second Level: Includes 32 teacher-directed phonics lessons that focus on vowel combinations, r-controlled vowel sounds, common endings, and CVCe words
Third Level: Includes 36 teacher-directed phonics lessons that expand concepts with vowel/letter combinations, common prefixes and suffixes, minor consonant sounds for c and g, and minor vowel sound combinations
The Teacher Guide ensures educators have the support they need to implement phonics intervention for older students by providing scripted lessons that outline what to do and say, placement tests that identify where to start, and timed readings to monitor progress.
